What are the Best Bait and Tackle for Sea Bass Fishing on Long Island?

What Techniques Work Best for Catching Sea Bass on Long Island?

When fishing for sea bass on Long Island, it's important to target rocky bottoms, wrecks, and reefs where sea bass are known to congregate. Drifting over these structures while jigging or using a  rig can be effective in enticing sea bass to bite. It's also important to pay attention to the tides and currents, as sea bass are more active during certain times of the day.

Using a slow and steady retrieve when fishing with artificial lures can mimic the movement of natural prey and attract sea bass. Anglers can also try using scent attractants on their baits or "Gulp" to further entice sea bass to strike.

Just a reminder. All anglers 16yrs and older are required to register for saltwater fishing or purchase a license for freshwater fishing in New York State.

You need to register before saltwater fishing. It's easy and it's FREE for NYS residents and all visitors.  To fish our local lakes and ponds, a Freshwater License is required. Basically, a NYS resident, Freshwater License, is available to purchase for a days fishing ($5.00) a week ($12.00) or a season (one year from date of purchase for $25.00.-Senior [70 or older] $5.00. )  Additional discounts are available for active military, disabled vets and more...... Non-Resident Freshwater Fishing Licenses are also available for a fee from $10.00-$50.00.
